Animal Movie released on 1st December 2023 in India, covered the whole theatre with a throng of avid Bollywood movie enthusiasts converged in impressive numbers to partake in the cinematic spectacle. And just after a few hours, the internet was overflowed with a huge trail of fan critics with overwhelmingly positive reviews, complimenting the typical Vanga style and the counterpart was avidly given by the movie critics such as Proma Khosla, Anupama Chopra and many other Cineworld pundits.
Not just the critics but Rotten Tomatoes also lambasted the Bollywood movie with a 28% score, whereas IMDB showered somewhat warmth with 6.8 stars.

In the adrenaline-pumping action-drama “Animal,” Ranbir Kapoor takes on the role of Ranvijay Singh, a fierce and fearless person driven by a thirst for revenge. The character of Ranbir Kapoor in Animal is said and believed to be a Papa’s boy, which was hardly realized in any of the person’s actions. And, when a shocking attempt is made on his father’s life, Ranvijay is deeply shattered and embarks on a relentless pursuit to uncover the mastermind behind this heinous act. His quest for justice leads him through a labyrinth of deceit, betrayal, and danger, as he becomes entangled in a web of dark secrets and hidden agendas.
Along the way, he crosses paths with a formidable cast of characters, including the enigmatic Rashmika Mandanna, Tripti Dimri and the seasoned Anil Kapoor, each with their motivations and hidden motives. With a heart full of rage and a mindset of retribution, Ranvijay transforms from a troubled soul into a formidable force, ready to unleash the animal within.
At the Ajanta Ellora International Film Festival in Aurangabad, India’s renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar critically addressed the rising trend of toxic masculinity, stating, “I believe it’s a testing time for the young filmmakers today as to what kind of characters they want to create that the society will applaud. For instance, if there’s a film in which a man asks a woman to lick his shoe or if a man says it’s okay to slap a woman, and if the film is a super duper hit, then that’s very dangerous.”
Degradation Of Women Characters & Misinterpretation Of A ‘Should-Be Man’
The toxic character of Ranbir Kapoor as Ranvijay brought up many misinterpretations and showcased his feeble Psychological status. The audience needs to understand that there is no hero in this film as it is not an obligation in filmmaking. The portrayal of the psyche of Ranvijay Singh is highly disturbing as can be seen and felt in many stances, i.e. he believes that a man has to yield the power to annihilate every soul that stands against his dear ones; he cannot be questioned and just to be believed as an alpha character; he holds the right to put anyone on pedestal who is not behaving according to his mindset, and so on.
The scene where Ranvijay Singh (Ranbir Kapoor) demands Zoya (Tripti Dimri) to lick his boot if she truly loves him, shows his insouciant character. Next, when he shouts at his wife – Geetanjali (Rashmika Mandana) over her tension over his deteriorating health, announcing his suffering is bigger than her changing pads 4 days a month. Perhaps, he forgot that he, himself has created that situation of changing pads 10 times a day because of his revenge spree. The movie though filmed him like a warrior, and his parents as rich and the least concerned parents, it is clear that in India, we hardly understand the requirement of a shrink in school, college or even offices. Sending your disturbed or delusional child to boarding school is not a solution but regular consultations from a psychologist could be.
If you can digest all of this because it was just an A-rated movie then perhaps, you can question the thought-wrenching Vanga’s opinion. According to him, ‘being in love with someone means having the freedom to assault each other’.
Clearly, the Animal movie could have been a tolerable Bollywood movie with more rational scenes with the interruption of police, media and politics in mad massacres all over the world, but, in the end, this movie is still a red signal to get released in a country like India, where a huge group of audience lack the academical and literal understanding. It is not a slap but a clap when this kind of movie gets a huge remuneration while movies like 12th Fail and Sam Bahadur are trying hard to reach the shore.

According to LiveMint, the Bollywood movie – Animal has secured 900 crores worldwide, successfully advancing in UAE, Australia and the United Kingdom. With this coveted mark in the history of Bollywood, Animal movie is sitting comfortably as one of the highest-grossing Indian movies of all time.
