2023 is delivering from tamed to scorching sex scenes. Whereas movies like Sharper, Beau Is Afraid, Somebody I Used To Know, in the post-COVID-19 era, have made their list to the Critic’s chart, Netflix’s Fair Play period sex scene has stirred a bizarre debate on crucial topics that we tend to avoid discussing. So, without wasting much on the surface, let’s get some quick details and then dive deeper into the substantial issues that the Netflix movie 2023 – Fair Play dared to play.

Talking on ‘Sex’ – this year Red, White & Royal Blue hit the pins rightly by cascading queer sex to the audience, and now Fair Play has tried to show the existence of ‘sex on period’.
Starring Alden Ehrenreich (Oppenheimer) as Luke and Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) as Emily, Fair Play could be a fair romantic movie if it wasn’t about male ego and prejudice. The movie cleverly shows how patriarchy affects men as well and how are they equally burdened as their fair counterparts.
2023 Netflix Top Movie – Fair Play starts with the couple, Luke and Emily as a power couple attending a friend’s wedding in the city. The couple is so much into each other that ‘wait till we get home’ is not in their dictionary. As soon as they make an alibi to the bathroom together, they start to fondle and caress each other. Luke descends to show Emily all his love, and when he stands again to kiss her, his face and shirt bear the marks of her period. Despite this, he remains entirely composed and unperturbed. This simple act made its audience love Luke’s character more than any other dauntless protagonist.

The next day, after coming home from their shared workplace, they engaged in the same erotic session. Emily hesitated at first, having just cleaned the bedsheets, but Luke promised to take care of the mess afterwards. Though for a very limited time, Luke represented himself as a viable and applaudable hero.
Later on, we get to know that both of them work in the same firm, a hedge fund company in the States. We feel more surprised and tightened at our position after comprehending the fact that their company has a strict policy on couples working in the same office. That’s a great no-no. Well, the duo played fairly until Emily got a massive promotion, which Luke had also gunned for. Since the day he got the lid off, Emily’s promotion made him jealous, uneasy and gradually his emotions pressure-cooked till the time it RIP-ed their relationship.
To Huffington Post, the director, Chloe Domont revealed, “I wanted to show early on that we as the audience are made to believe that this is a man who’s not threatened by a woman, because he’s literally got her blood on his face,”. She recalled. “How could he be threatened by a woman if he has her blood on his face?”

Perhaps for a brief time, Luke’s character showed men and women not to be disgusted by a natural flow and to stay helpful and caring at the time. Embrace what’s natural and eschew non-sensical stigmata imposed by the society, made by us. Definitely, it is messy and gross but if you’re head over heels for your girl, the cordial play seems very natural to both.
Being on the list of Most Popular Movies on Netflix, Fair Play is a must-watch; especially if you’re craving for a quick serving chilling drama.
